On Monday (5 June) he visited European Economic Community (EEC) leaders in Brussels.

SYNOPSIS: At the EEC Commission headquarters in Brussels Mr. Desai was met by the President of the Commission Mr. Roy Jenkins. Mr. Desai later described the meeting as "very fruitful". He said the purpose of his two-day visit to Belgium was to increase mutual trust and goodwill rather than walk about specific issues.

He said India would be looking for improved access to the EEC market in some areas, like textiles. India had a 270-million Dollar trade surplus with the EEC last year.
