Background: At the Arab League Headquarters in Cairo, United Arab Republic, the Arab Defence Council met June 10 to draw up a joint military plan to counter any possible Israeli aggression. Nine Arab countries are taking part.
These are the signatories of the Collective Defence Part - U.A.R. (Egypt and Syria), Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Saudi Arabia - as well as Morocco, Libya and Sudan. Tunisia has apologised for being unable to participate at this session.
Dr. Fanzi, the U.A.R. Foreign Affairs Ministers, presided ; and another speaker was the Secretary- General of the Arab League, El Sayed Abdul Khalek Hassuna. Delegates will discuss the Pack, and will probably decide to persuade other Arab countries to join "in order to face all eventualities."
They will also draw up plans to "frustrate the conspiracies" of countries supporting Israel - on the Palestine case at the next session of the United Nations. The Israeli plan to direct the course of the River Jordan is another subject on the agenda. The Arab states are opposed to this move.
