  • Description

    MAN EXPLAINING COMPOSING MACHINE.

TRANSCRIPT: "IN THE PAST COMPOSING CHINESE HAS BEEN A RATHER TEDIOUS JOB. TO PREPARE A PRINTING PLATE OF CHINESE YOU HAVE TO GET SLUGS FROM LEAD BINS AND PUT THEM TOGETHER TO PREPARE A PRINTING PLATE TO GET THE CHINESE COMPOSITION. WE HAVE DESIGNED HERE A MACHINE THAT PERMITS YOU THE PRINTING OF THE COMPOSING OF CHINESE, JAPANESE OR KOREAN DIRECTLY FROM A KEYBOARD. THIS MACHINE HERE DOES JUST THAT. WE PROVIDE TWENTY ONE BASIC STROKES. THERE ARE STRAIGHT LINES, VERTICALS, HORIZONTALS, CURVES. FROM THESE STROKES YOU CAN COMPOSE ANY ONE OF TEN THOUSAND CHARACTERS. IT IS PRIMARILY DESIGNED FOR AN INDIVIDUAL WHO CAN WRITE CHINESE, AND ONLY REQUIRES AN ORIENTATION FROM BRUSH STROKING BY HAND TO USING THE KEYBOARD WITH THE SAME STROKES HE WOULD NORMALLY USE WITH THE BRUSH. SO, ESSENTIALLY, IT IS LIKE ENGLISH WHERE YOU TAKE THE INDIVIDUAL ALPHABET, AND PUT THEM IN A SEQUENCE. YOU DO THE SAME THING WITH THIS MACHINE. YOU TAKE THE INDIVIDUAL STROKES, PUT THEM THROUGH IN A SEQUENCE, THE SEQUENCE THAT YOU NORMALLY WRITE THE CHARACTERS. AND FROM THERE WE SELECT THE CHARACTER THE OPERATOR IS LOOKING FOR. WE THEN PHOTOGRAPH THE IMAGE OF THAT CHARACTER ON PHOTOGRAPHIC FILM, AND WE COMPOSE IT DIRECTLY INTO FINAL FORMAT. THIS IS SOME EXAMPLES OF COPY OF THE FILM. WE HAVE A FIVE INCH FILM WITH A FOUR AND A HALF INCH FORMAT, AND THIS IS A PRINTED COPY OF THE MACHINE".
