SAYED MAREI: "Well, I am heading an Egyptian delegation.....an Egyptian parliamentary delegation.....which went to Canberra because of the ITU meeting which is the Inter-Parliamentary Union. But once we were going to Australia, through a discussion which took place between the President.....President Sadat.....and myself, we came to the conclusion that we should visit the neighbouring and friendly countries around our trip."

Background: After the press conference the Speaker of the People's Assembly of Egypt, Mr. Sayed Marei.....who is visiting Thailand as part of his South East Asian tour.....was taken on a visit to a fish farm near Bangkok. The fish farm project was built with the joint co-operation of the Thai and Canadian governments. Mr. Marei said such co-operation was a lesson to the rest of the world on what agricultural advancements could be achieved by different countries pooling their knowledge and finances.

Mr. Marei said that following his visit to Thailand the Thai and Egyptian governments were planning to exchange agricultural knowledge especially in regard to the fish breeding industry. Mr. Marei said he had asked the King Of Thailand to send some Thai fishery experts to Egypt to assist in establishing similar schemes in the Aswan High Dam. The Speaker for the Assembly is also President of the United Nation's Food and Agricultural Council. As President of the Council he has proposed that the less developed countries of the world exchange their agricultural knowledge in an effort to ease their food shortage problems.
