Background: General Michel Fourquet, Chief of Staff of the French armed forces, yesterday (Friday) visited the Moroccan Staff College at kenitra air base, north of Rabat. He arrived in Morocco on Thursday for a six-day official visit at the invitation of General Mohamed ben Bachir Bouhali, Major-General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces.
The general's visit is probably his last foreign journey; before his retirement on 9 June.
The visit is further evidence of cordiality between France and Morocco (in marked contrast to the strained relations between France and Algeria at present). The French Foreign Minister, M. Maurice Schumann, visited Rabat last December, and Finance Minister Giscard d'Estaing is due to visit Morocco on 6 May.
Later on Friday, General Fourquet entertained Moroccan Staff Officers aboard the French cruiser-helicopter carrier jeanne d'Arc which has been visiting Casablanca since Tuesday (see Visnews Product 4041/71).
