  • Description

President Yahya Khan of Pakistan called for effective machinery for the settlement of international disputes when he inaugurated an international seminar on world politics in Rawalpindi on August 18.

The seminar -- on "International Peace and World Politics -- was attended by scholars and foreign policy experts.

The President said Pakistan believed in the right of people to determine their own destiny, whether it was in the Middle East, in Asia or nearer home in Kashmir.

He explained that his country's foreign policy of bilateralism simply meant developing friendly relations with all countries on the basis of mutuality of interests. The President also said that Pakistan's record at the United Nations showed it had always helped in promoting the cause of independence of countries and territories under colonial rule.

The four-day seminar was organised by Pakistan's Central Minister for Communications, Professor G.W. Chowdhury, who also addressed the delegates.
