    MOHSEN AL-AINI:

"We would like only to find solutions for all these problems. Of course so many people are talking why we are talking about unity now, while was have differences. But in fact this is because of the differences. We feel that if we want to solve the problems of the refugees for example it is very difficult to convince people in Aden to welcome them back and they have all sort of trouble and difficulties and differences. At the same time we are poor countries, they themselves and ourselves. So instead of spending much money for each country or the other buying arms and so on, we can spare all that and we can have the activities and the efforts of all the Yemenis to build their country. The (INDISTINCT) is working now and I hope we can find solution of the problem. If not then I am afraid that the situation will be worse maybe nothing would stop it. They can say that the world may face another Vietnam. And maybe everybody will not give much attention to this problem but I am sure that if we must find the solution now it will be very complicated and nobody will get anything out of it."

Background: The North Yemen Prim Minister, Mohsen Al-Aini, arrived in Cairo on Wednesday (25 October) for discussions with his delegation to the unity talks with South Yemen, and for a meeting with his Southern counterpart, Ali Nasser Mohamed.

In an interview soon after his arrival, Mr. Al-Aini spoke about the reasons why he felt unity with South Yemen was desirable.

Mr. Al-Aini was due to meet Mr. Mohamed on Thursday, to discuss the draft proposal for unity. The proposal was drawn up by a sub-committee appointed by the recent Yemen conciliation conference.

It calls for the formation of eight committees, including a constitutional one, to work out details of unification. A draft constitution for the proposed unified state would be put to a referendum in both North and South Yemen within a year.
