  • Description

The fourth anniversary of the middle East June War passed quietly in Jerusalem on Saturday (June 5) with tension in the region at its lowest since 1967 -- but prospects of peace still considered remote.

A small number of wreaths were placed on shrines throughout the city, but in a Jerusalem of open shops and busy Saturday trading little time was spared for thoughts of the 1967 conflict.

Small groups of men and women paid homage to those who died in the war, but there was no organised memorial procession or demonstration of remembrance anywhere in the divided city.

Later that night two Arab civilians were wounded when shots were fired into a car in which they were travelling on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The driver of the car was seriously hurt and his passenger a policeman, was wounded in the shoulder. VISNEWS cameraman, Rolf Kneller, arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting incident.
