    AS FIGHTING CONTINUED BETWEEN ALGERIAN AND MOROCCAN TROOPS DEEP IN THE SAHARA, THE ARAB LEAGUE COUNCIL IN CAIRO TODAY (SUNDAY) CALLED ON BOTH COUNTRIES TO WITHDRAW THEIR TROOPS TO POSITIONS HELD BEFORE THE OUTBREAK OF HOSTILITIES.THE COUNCIL ALSO APPOINTED A SIX-MAN MEDIATION COMMITTEE TO HELP SETTLE THE BORDER DISPUTE.

    YESTERDAY -- AS SHOWN ON FILM -- THE COUNCIL, MEETING IN SPECIAL SESSION, ADOPTED A UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC RESOLUTION URGING THE TWO ARAB NATIONS TO CALL AN IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE AND RESOLVE THEIR ROW PEACEFULLY.

    COUNCIL SECRETARY-GENERAL ABDUL KALEK HASSOUNA PRESIDED.A SPOKESMAN SAID THE COUNCIL WAS MEETING AT "A CRUCIAL TIME IN OUR HISTORY." THE BORDER DISPUTE, HE ADDED, WAS "EXTREMELY SERIOUS."
    BOTH MOROCCO AND ALGERIA WERE REPRESENTED AT THE MEETING.THE ARAB LEAGUE'S OTHER MEMBERS ARE: THE U.A.R., IRAQ, SAUDI ARABIA, SYRIA, LEBANON, JORDAN, YEMEN, LIBYA, SUDAN, TUNISIA AND KUWAIT.
