  • Description

MONSIGNOR MATTHEW KANYAMA, BISHOP OF KABINDA, IN CONGO-KINSHASA, TODAY (SUNDAY) CELEBRATED HIS FIRST MASS SINCE HIS CONSECRATION BY POPE PAUL LAST SUNDAY. BISHOP KANYAMA, AGED 52, WAS ONE OF 12 NEW BISHOPS CONSECRATED IN SAINT PETERS BASILICA BY THE POPE.

BISHOP KANYAMA'S FIRST MASS WAS CELEBRATED IN ROME'S PROPAGANDA FIDE COLLEGE, BEFORE A LARGE CONGREGATION.

THE NEW BISHOP RECEIVED HIS MITRE, CROOKED PASTORAL STAFF, RING AND BIBLE, ALONG WITH THE 11 OTHER NEW BISHOPS, AFTER THE COLOURFUL, MAJESTIC CEREMONY OF CONSECRATION LAST SUNDAY.

THE 12 NEW CANDIDATE CAME FROM SEVEN COUNTRIES.

DURING THE CEREMONY, POPE PAUL WARNED THE NEW BISHOPS THAT ORTHODOXY, OR DOCTRINAL PURITY, WAS BEING QUESTIONED AND DOUBTED BY MANY CATHOLICS.

BISHOPS, HE SAID, WERE THE CUSTODIANS OF THE FAITH, THE REPRESENTATIVES OF CHRIST AND HEIRS OR REVEALED TRUTH.

BISHOP KANYAMA WILL RETURN TO KABINDA IN A FEW WEEKS.
