  • Description

This year's Algerian Trade Fair in Pins Maritimes opened on Monday (25 August), with 49 countries participating.

Twelve years ago, at the first algerian Trade Fair, there were only 13 countries represented, but the Fair has increased steadily in importance since then.

This year's Trade Fair also held special significance for the Algerian people, as it coincided with the tenth anniversary of the coup which brought President Hourari Boumedienne to power in 1965.

President Bourmedienne accompanied the new leader of the Cape Verde Islands, President Aristides Pereira, to the opening ceremony. The West African guest cut the official ribbon.

Countries exhibiting at the Fair came from far reaching corners of the globe, and many African countries, several European nations, Canada, the Soviet Union, and China were among the long list of those exhibiting.

Representatives of several liberation movements from Africa, and members of the Chilean Resistance also attended.

The fair continues until September 10th.

SYNOPSIS: After ten years of rule by President Hourari Boumedienne's government, the Algerian Trade Fair continues to increase in importance. This, the twelfth fair of its kind, was opened on Monday by President Aristides Pereira, the new leader of the Cape Verde Islands.

Twelve years ago, the Fair could boast only thirteen exhibiting countries. Now, the number of participating nations has risen to forty-nine. They come from very many parts of the world.

Neighbouring nations of Syria and Egypt were represented, but there were also exhibitors from as far away as Canada, China, Indonesia and Europe.

The Fair also marked the tenth anniversary of President Boumedienne's rise to power in nineteen-sixty five. After the official opening ceremony, he and other dignitaries strolled through the fair, inspecting the wide range of equipment on show, and speaking to participants. Most of the exhibitors had chosen to show electrical and agricultural equipment, in accordance with Algeria's present needs.

On the lighter side, were amusement parks and night clubs for the visitors.
