The Czechoslovak Foreign Minister, Mr. Bohuslav Chnoupek, has met West German Chancellor Willy Brandt and Foreign Minister Walter Scheel in Bonn before initialling an accord to normalise relations between the two countries.
Mr. Chnoupek left Prague for Bonn on Tuesday (June 19) and was due to initial the treaty on Wednesday before returning home on Thursday.
A main obstacle to the treaty was the 1938 Munich Pact which provided for part of Czechoslovakia to be incorporated into Nazi Germany, but negotiators agreed on a formula annulling the pact.
Herr Brandt is due to go to Czechoslovakia later this year for the signing of the treaty. Hungary and Bulgaria have said they will also establish relations with West Germany once Bonn has settled its differences with Prague.
