    THREE BANDS OF TIRED AMERICAN PACIFISTS, WHO HAD TRAMPED A TOTAL OF 2,100-MILES TO DEMONSTRATE FOR PEACE, WALKED INTO TROUBLE JUNE 19, WHEN THEY TRIED TO PICKET ON A STREET NEXT TO THE WHITE HOUSE, WASHINGTON. FOUR OF THE "WALK FOR PEACE" MARCHERS, WHO HAD TRUDGED IN FROM NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE; CHICAGO; AND HANOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE, WERE ARRESTED FOR OBSTRUCTION, BUT LATER RELEASED AFTER THE JUDGE VISITED THE SCENE OF ARREST TO SEE FOR HIMSELF.

    THE GROUPS, TOTALLING ABOUT 30, ARE SPONSORED BY THE COMMITTEE FOR NON-VIOLENT ACTION, A LARGELY QUAKER ORGANISATION. THEIR BANNERS READ: "NO BOMBS TESTS - EAST FOR WEST," "ACT FOR PEACE - REFUSE TO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES." THEY HAD EARLIER PICKETED THE PENTAGON AND ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE.

    ON JUNE 20 - CONTINUING THEIR WEEK-LONG PROGRAMME OF PROTEST - A HARDY GROUP BRAVED A RAINSTORM TO PICKET THE ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION HEADQUARTERS IN GERMANTOWN, MARYLAND.
