    A SPOKESMAN FOR THE SOUTHERN RHODESIA ARMY HAS STATED THAT THE OVERALL STRENGTH OF THE ARMY HAD NOT BEEN SERIOUSLY AFFECTED BY THE LOSSES FROM THE RHODESIAN LIGHT INFANTRY. HE SAID FRESH RECRUITS WERE BEING SOUGHT IN RHODESIAN SCHOOLS.

    HIS VIEWS WERE GIVEN ON SATURDAY AFTER MORE THAN 200 INFANTRYMEN HAD BEEN PAID OFF. THEY WERE MEMBERS OF THE FEDERAL DEFENCE FORCE NOW BEING REDUCED IN SIZE PENDING THE BREAK-UP OF THE FEDERATION.

    THE MEN WERE GIVEN A CHOICE OF EITHER RESIGNING OR JOINING THE SOUTHERN RHODESIAN ARMY. THOSE RESIGNING WERE OFFERED THREE MONTHS' PAY AND COMMUTED PENSION MONEY. FOR MOST IT MEANT A FINAL PAY OF AROUND GBP400 STERLING
    FURTHER DEMOBILISATION WILL BE STAGGERED UP TO THE END OF THE YEAR. THE FILM SHOWS THE DISCHARGED MEN LOUNGING AROUND THE PAYMASTER'S OFFICE, COLLECTING THEIR MONEY AND A FINAL ROUND OF HANDSHAKES.
