    THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) FORMALLY EXTENDED THE CYPRUS PEACE-KEEPING MANDATE UNTIL JUNE 26. THE VOTE WAS UNANIMOUS. THE II-NATION COUNCIL ALSO CALLED UPON ALL PARTIES TO THE CONFLICT IN THE ISLAND TO CO-OPERATE FULLY WITH THE U.N. FORCE, AND THEMSELVES "TO ACT WITH THE UTMOST RESTRAINT."
    MR. STEVENSON CALLED ON ALL SIDES IN THE DISPUTE TO COMPROMISE THEIR DIFFERENCES AND RELIEVE THE U.N. OF THE BURDENS AND DANGERS THE CONFLICT HAD IMPOSED.

    (MR. SPYROS KYPRIANOU, THE CYPRUS FOREIGN MINISTER, REPLIED THAT HIS GOVERNMENT COULD NEVER AGREE TO COMPROMISE WITH PRINCIPLE).

    (THE 6,000-MAN U.N. FORCE HAS BEEN ON DUTY IN CYPRUS FOR A YEAR. U THANT, THE U.N. SECRETARY-GENERAL, HAS SAID THAT ITS WITHDRAWAL NOW COULD TRIGGER RENEWED STRIFE).
