INDIAN ARMY UNITS ARE BUSILY SCOURING HILLSIDES AND PADDY-FIELDS IN KASHMIR CLEARING UP INFILTRATORS WHOM THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT CLAIM COME FROM PAKISTAN.

ALL-INDIA RADIO HAS BROADCAST A STATEMENT FROM THE DEFENCE MINISTER, MR. Y. B. CHAVAN, WHICH SAYS THAT AFTER 16 DAYS FIGHTING THE INFILTRATORS HAVE ACHIEVED A LIMITED SUCCESS AND A LONG, HARD CAMPAIGN LIES AHEAD. IT ESTIMATED THAT BETWEEN 3,000 AND 5,000 REMAIN AT LARGE IN KASHMIR.

MR, CHAVAN CLAIMS THAT INDIAN FORCES ACCOUNTED FOR AT LEAST 800 INFILTRATORS - DEAD OR WOUNDED - AND CAPTURES ANOTHER 200. THE DEFENCE MINISTRY, HOWEVER, SAID LATER THAT THEIR 'KILLED' FIGURES WERE 300 - CHECKED BY BODILY COUNT.

THE ANTI-INDIAN RADIO STATION "VOICE OF KASHMIR" CLAIMED TONIGHT (SUNDAY) THAT 1,000 INDIAN TROOPS HAD BEEN KILLED IN KASHMIR. IT SAID 40 BRIDGES HAD BEEN BLASTED AND LARGE QUANTITIES OF AMMUNITION CAPTURED. ANTI-INDIAN UNITS HAD ATTACKED THE AIRPORT AT POONCH, DESTROYING A LIGHT MILITARY AIRCRAFT, CONTINUED THE RADIO STATION.
