  • Description

NEARLY TWO-THOUSAND POLICE WERE ON DUTY IN AND AROUND TOKYO'S MARTIAL ARTE HALL LAST NIGHT (JUNE 30), IN PREPARATION FOR THE FIRST PERFORMANCE IN JAPAN OF BRITAIN'S POP-IDOLS, THE BEATLES.

HOWEVER, BEFORE THE PERFORMANCE THE 12,000-STRONG AUDIENCE GAVE THE POLICE TASK FORCE LITTLE CAUSE TO WORRY, EVEN THOUGH TEENAGE GIRLS NEARLY DROWNED THE PROGRAMME WITH SCREAMING.

POLICE MADE IT VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR GATE-CRASHERS TO GET INTO THE CONCERT HALL. THERE WERE RIGID CHECKS ON TICKETS, AND POLICE TELEVISION CAMERAS OPERATED AROUND THE BUILDING TO GIVE WARNING OF DISTURBANCES.
