  • Description

The Shah of Iran - the country which last year bought a twenty-five per cent interest in the West Germany steel giant Krupp - inspected a huge Mexican steel project now under construction, during his six-day visit to Mexico.

It is possible Iran will invest some of its oil money in the project at Las Truchas, near Acapulco. When completed, the complex will be capable of producing 1.5 million tons of steel a year, increasing to three and a half million.

But money is needed - it's estimated the project will cost one billion, 640 million U.S. dollars to complete (about 713 million sterling) - and Iranian investment would be welcomed.
