A group of American specialists led by Mr. John McCone, Chairman of the Atomic Energy?
A group of American specialists led by Mr. John McCone, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of the United State, visited the Soviet Union for ten days at the invitation of the Central administration for the Use of Atonic Energy Under the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
On October the 18th, just before departing from Moscow, Mr. McCone gave a press conference during which he described his tour through the Soviet Union.
Mr. McCane said that he was satisfied with the visit.
Many of the research installations we visited, he said, were new to us. It can be expected in the near future big achievements by Soviet scientists in the use of atomic energy, for peaceful purposes.
He emphasized on the importance of personal contacts between Soviet and American scientists in the atom field, Mr. McCone said that co-operation between them would be very useful not only for the Soviet Union and the United States but for other countries also.
In this connection he said that he would like to see a wider exchange of specialists on atomic energy.
Mr. McCone highly appraised the Soviet scientific institutions engaged in the problems of peaceful use of atomic energy. In conclusion Mr. McCone replied to questions put to him by correspondents.
