Twenty two cars took part in this year's Caltex Vintage Rally in Kenya with the event going to a 1929 Model A Ford driven by local competitor, Brian Smith. When he has finished the bodywork Smith intends to ship the car to India and drive to England.

SYNOPSIS: A near record number of entrants lined up for the start of this year's Caltex Vintage Rally in Nairobi, Kenya. The event is arranged by the East African Vintage Car Club.

Number 27, a Model A Ford driven by Brian Smith nearly didn't make the start. Smith has been rebuilding the car for the last two years. The bodywork still isn't finished, but Smith decided to enter anyway. It was just as well he did....because he won.

Smith's car performed perfectly throughout the rally, despite the lack of body work. When he's completed the car, Smith plans to ship it to India and then drive overland the England. Second place went to David Markham in a 1928 Vauxhall Tourer with Guy Bromley third in a Lancia.
