Another space launch in the Soviet Union -- and this time a Polish cosmonaut i one of two who are planning to link up with the orbiting Salyut-6 space laboratory after blasting of from the baikonur Cosmosdrome in a Soyuz ferry vehicle on Tuesday (27 June).

SYNOPSIS: As usual the names of the crew were not announced until the men were already in space -- but a Polish military delegation visiting Moscow at the time was taken to the Cosmodrome to watch the lift-off. The mission commander is Soviet cosmonaut Pyotr Klimuk and his partner Miroslav Giermaszewski of Poland, thus confirming reports from Polish sources in moscow that the next launch in the Soyuz series would include a Polish crewmen.

The launch took place just before 6.30 p.m. Moscow time.

And as can be sen from this Soviet Television film everything went smoothly and the two cosmonauts are now orbiting the earth prior to their planned docking manoeuvre with the Salyut space laboratory.

In march Czech cosmonaut Vladimir Remek became the first non-American or Soviet citizen to be sent into space. At the time Moscow radio said the event opened a new page in the development of astronautics. The Soviet Union is training cosmonauts from several Communist countries, including Cuba and Mongolia.

But for the moment world attention is focused on Klimuk and Giermaszewski.
