  • Description

Australia's Cricket Captain, Ian Chappell, has spoken in support of playing Test Cricket against South Africa, now under a general sports boycott by Australia.

Addressing a luncheon meeting of the National Press Club in Canberra, Chappell said: "I must emphasise this is only a personal viewpoint -- but I feel it is time for Australia to extend the hand of friendship to South Africa. I think we will do more good this way".

Chappell said he had spoken with the South African Minister for Sport several times and he felt the country was "doing a lot towards multi-racial sport".
