Background: In view of the difference of opinion existing between Archbishop of Cyprus Makarios and the Greek Government over the way of handling the Cyprus problem, and noted political activity was recorded these days in Athens pending Makarios' departure to the United States. The Archbishop has had many meetings with Foreign Minister Averof and Greek Premier's councellors, as well as with Athens Ethnarchic members and discussed the line to follow in the United Nations. It is true, the Greek Government was forced to succomb before Makarios' pressure on self-determination and thus decided to go on with the Cyprus Issue in the United Nations. Satisfying the Cypriots' demands, the Greek Government rejected british "suggestions" on a probable three-nation meeting to discuss this difficult problem of Cyprus; and this, for in these "suggestions" there were no concrete proposals of solutions. The reply to these british offers has been approved by King Paul of Greece who received yesterday in his Corfu Palace the Greek Foreign Minister Averof. The King has also invited Makarios at his Summer Palace "the Mon Repos" of Corfu with whom He will discuss the problem of Cyprus and the conduct of the Ethnarchy in the United States.
