PS:- Makarios during his address to the attending crowds insisted once again on his well-known line of self-determination. There will be no solution whatsoever without guaranteeing the free will of the Cyprus people, he said.

Background: Continuing his activities in Greece, Archbishop of Cyprus Makarios went up a mountain-peak of Hymittos (some 3000 feet above sea-level) and unveiled a monument built by the Greek Studies Society in cooperation with the Boy Scouts Association and in memoria of the Greek Cypriot Youth killed or executed by the British during the three-year fight in the Island. Inspite the dangerous position and the difficult paths of Hymittos, a quite considerable number of people and Government and Military officials attended the ceremony. Taking into consideration that mount Hymittos resembles to Mount Troodos of Cyprus, where the main hide-outs of EOKA, Makarios (probably feeling homesick) was heard saying "he thought he was in Cyprus and by the heroic fighters of the EOKA".
