    FOUR WHITE NEWSMEN WERE CHASED BY AN ANGRY MOB TUESDAY (24 MARCH) IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA (SOUTHEASTERN US) NEGRO YOUTHS OVERTURNED THEIR CAR, SET IT AFIRE AND SHOWERED ROCKS AND BOTTLES ON POLICE TRYING TO QUELL THE DISTURBANCE.

    THE OUTBURST OCCURRED NEAR NEW STANTON HIGH SCHOOL FOLLOWING A NIGHT OF BLOODY VIOLENCE IN WHICH A NEGRO WOMAN WAS SHOT FROM AMBUSH, AND WHITES WERE SLASHED AND FIRED UPON BY ASSAILANTS IN THE NEGRO SECTION OF THE NORTHEAST FLORIDA CITY. MOVING NEGRO GANGS BROKE SCORES OF WINDSHIELDS OF PASSING MOTORISTS.

    ELSEWHERE ON TUESDAY A BAND OF ABOUT 150 NEGRO YOUTHS STAGED A MARCH. POLICE BROKE IT UP, AND HAULED TWO BUSLOADS AWAY TO JAIL.

    TUESDAY MORNING, STUDENTS AT THE NEW STANTON HIGH SCHOOL WHERE DISMISSED AFTER AN UNKNOWN PERSON TELEPHONED POLICE TO SAY A BOMB HAD BEEN PLANTED IN THE SCHOOL. THE SCHOOL HAS A LARGELY NEGRO ENROLLMENT. NEGRO STUDENTS MILLED AROUND OUTSIDE THE BUILDING, TAUNTING POLICEMEN AND REPORTERS. THEN THEY ATTACKED THE NEWSMEN, THREE OF THE NEWSMEN ESCAPED IN ANOTHER CAR, THE FOURTH WAS CAPTURED BY A MOB AND BEATEN. HE WAS TREATED LATER FOR LACERATIONS OF THE HEAD, A SPRAINED WRIST AND A BRUISED LEG. HIS WALLET WAS STOLEN IN THE MELEE.
