Background: The International Committee of the Red Cross appealed last night (14 September) to all parties concerned in the hijack crisis to avoid all reprisal actions. The appeal was made in a press conference following a three-and-a-half hour meeting of the 19-member ICRC to decide its next steps in effort to secure the release of the hostages.
The ICRC confirmed its wish to continue to seek the release of all hostages, with no distinction, and to keep in close contact with all parties involved.
The President of ICRC, M. Marcel Naville, was still awaiting exact information on the conditions the Palestinian commandos are demanding for the release of the remaining hostages.
The only ICRC representatives still in the Middle East after the suspension of negotiations with the commandos on Sunday are two regularly based in Jordan and one from the Geneva headquarters.
