    New York's Mayor John Lindsay, a self-styled "born Republican", yesterday (Wednesday) switched allegiance to the Democratic Party -- and renewed speculation that he might run for the Presidency in the 1972 elections.

    Lindsay, for seven years a Congressman before becoming Mayor, would not tell newsmen whether the change in party would result in his seeking the Presidency. But he did pledge to work for the defeat of the present Nixon administration. This is how he expressed his disenchantment with the Republican Party:
