    The Argentine ship "Santos Vega", carrying a 25,000-ton load of Rhodesian chrome ore to the Untied States, was picketed by a demonstration of students demanding that the ore should be sent back. The demonstrators, from nearby Southern University, met the ship when it dropped anchor on sunday (March 19) fifty miles up the Mississippi River from New Orleans. Dockers from one trade union unit refused to unload the ore, which was then handled by members of another unit.

    The demonstrators, shouting "take the chrome back", carried placards calling far a halt to the oppression of black Rhodesian Africans.

    The ore was the first to be imported following a relaxation of sanction against Rhodesia by the United States Congress last november. The ???ation covered the importation of strategic goods from Rhodesia if the only alternative source was a communist country. The United States compiler with a United States economic embargo on Rhodesian goods after Rhodesia declared itself independent of Britain in 1965, and imported its chrome are requirements from the Soviet Union. Rhodesian and Soviet chromeare considered the highest grades in the world, unmatched by any other chrome-ore-producing nation.
