  • Description

After the drafting committee of the Republican Convention in Chicago came round to the Nixon Rockefeller point of view on the strength of the Civil Rights issue, Vice-President Nixon spoke to reporters on the differences said to exist between himself and Rockefeller, Governor of New York State.

He said that, regrettably, people had tended to emphasize the differences between himself and Rockefeller, and had said little about the extent of their accord.

They agreed on the mechanics of the Federal Old Age Benefits aspect of Social Security for which Rockefeller has been a major complainer in recent months: they agreed on the need for vigorous thinking on National Defense policies.
