U.S. baseball fans were treated to a display of fine hitting and running when Chicago?

  • Description

U.S. baseball fans were treated to a display of fine hitting and running when Chicago Cubs met the Pittsburg Pirates in the first leg of a doubleheader on the Chicago ground on Friday (4 July).

The score was tied one-all,, until Chicago's Jerry Morales put the Cubs ahead with a line single to centre in the sixth. From that point on the Cubs seemed set for victory.

Chicago pitcher Steve Stone play an outstanding game, taking his first two runs-batted-in off a two-run single to centre which brought the score up to six-one in the Cubs' favour.

For Stone, victory in this game ended a personal three-game losing streak...but it left the Cubs still trailing ten-and-a-half games behind the Pirates.
