    THE ILLINOIS DELEGATION INVITED BOTH SCRANTON AND GOLDWATER TO APPEAR BEFORE IT, IN CLOSED SESSION, FOR "AUDITIONS", ON TUESDAY. THE TWO MEN DID, SCRANTON FIRST MAKING A STREET CORNER APPEARANCE IN DOWNTOWN CHICAGO BEFORE TEN THOUSAND PERSONS. AFTER THE "AUDITIONS" SENATOR EVERETT DIRKSEN, THE LEADER OF THE DELEGATION, ANNOUNCED THAT THE DELEGATION WOULD GIVE 48 VOTES TO GOLDWATER, 2 TO SCRANTON, WITH THE OTHER EIGHT BEING UNCOMMITTED. MR. GOLDWATER WAS DELIGHTED.
