Background: The Israeli Knesset convened today to vote on the Cabinet's reply to the American questions on the future of the occupied territories. The labour party and the Dmc party held separate meetings before the debate to decide whether to cast a no confidence vote. Labour decided not to cast a no confidence vote, and DMC members are abstaining, rather than vote with the Likud.
FM Moshe Dayan said that the administered autonomy plan should be permanent and that the government decision answers the requirements of resolution 242. Labour party leader Shimon Peres replied that the Cabinet's reply will only embitter the US, a create difficulties in negotiations, and does not eliminate the eventuality of a Palestinian State.
The outcome of the debate Peres retorted, created peace amongst the cabinet ministers but did not answer the US queries. No motion of no-confidence was presented by the opposition in order not to force the DMC to vote with the govt.
Defence Minister Ezer Weizman showed up late at the session and left before the vote.
