    Representatives of the international Roman Catholic peace movement, Pax Christi Internationalis and leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church met for three days of talks in Leningrad, U.S.S.R. from Monday (26 April) to Wednesday (28 April).

    The Pax Christi delegation was led by Dutch Cardinal Bernard Alfrink, aged 75, who retired as Roman Catholic Primate of the Netherlands and Archbishop of Utrecht in February this year.

    The Russian Orthodox group was led by Metropolitan Nikodim - one of the most influential and controversial figures in the Russian Orthodox Church, who was recently appointed as Russian Orthodox Exarch of Western Europe.

    According to Soviet Television the meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and ended successfully with agreement achieved on a number of important questions.

    According to a report by Reuters from The Hague, Netherlands, the agenda for the talks included East - West relations, security and co-operation and cultural affairs.
