  • Description

In the blistering heat of a Transvaal summer many members of the French community in Johannesburg and Pretoria come to "Petit Mont Bouge," in the north Transvaal, about fifty miles north of Johannesburg.

Here former Georges Henry-Bay stages a novel little ceremony when his grape harvest is brought home. He invites a ??? of pretty females along to press the grapes with their feet-of course they must wash them first.

The local native labour forces contribution is a band, to accompany the proceedings and "set the atmosphere" as it were.

There are as many grapes for "personal" consumption as one can eat, and the girls, in their gay dresses, and traditional costumes, lose no time in sampling the product.

Altogether a very colourful ceremony laid on by a progressive farmer.
