New York is a city devoted to the arts. And this morning --residents and visitors get their first chance to see the paintings of one of the worlds best known amateur artists.
Here's one of the works on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's untitled "Black Swans at Chartwell." The artist--Sir Winston Churchill. It's one of 41 paintings which will be on view through the end of this month.
The canvasses on view at the museum represent the efforts of some 40 years --during which time the artist was involved in other fields. At a gala opening last night, diplomats and civic leaders looked over the paintings --and art critic Alfred Frankfurter gave his appraisal.
