INTRODUCTION A group of eleven young people demonstrated at the Gare de l'Est in Paris, France on Tuesday (15 February) as the Orient Express train to Bucharest, Rumania was about to leave.

The demonstrators had originally planned to lie down on the track in front of the Orient Express in protest against their plight, which for some has been going on for many years. But because two of the group had received assurances from the Rumanian embassy in Paris that their cases has been satisfactorily resolved, the decided at the last moment to modify their plans and stage a simpler protest and a news conference. In a manifesto, the frustrated lovers said that their only platform was humanitarian and that all they asked for was to be allowed to marry the people they loved.

However despite the possibility of a softening in the attitude of the Rumanian authorities, the group has said that it will maintain its solidarity and will not stop drawing attention to its solidarity and will not stop drawing attention to its cause until all of them were permanently reunited with their fiances. The have invited others concerned about their problem to join in.
