  • Description

There was a big ticker-tape welcome for Democratic presidential candidate Kennedy when he and his wife arrived in New York city Oct. 19. The couple drove along Broadway, and were joined by Mayor Wagner.

There is strong support for the Democrats in the city, and it is here - Oct 20 - that Kennedy and his Republican rival, Mr. Richard Nixon, will take part in their fourth television "duel". New York - a key state - will be subjected to vigorous campaigning by both candidates.

Recent developments in the battle before election day, Now 8, include reports that the influential New York Times is about to come out in support of Kennedy, and an article by Catholic convert Clare Booth Luce - noted US personality and formerly Ambassador to Italy - pledging support, not for Catholic Kennedy, but for Nixon.
