    SINGAPORE'S PRIME MINISTER, MR. LEE KUAN YEW AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE MALAYSIA 'TRUTH MISSION' TO AFRICA WERE GIVEN A ROUSING SEND-OFF ON JANUARY 20 NIGHT ON THEIR FIRST LEG OF THEIR FIVE-WEEK TOUR OF AFRICAN STATES.

    AT THE AIRPORT TO SEE THEM OFF WERE CABINET MINISTERS, MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY, JUDGES OF THE HIGH COURT AND OTHER DIGNITARIES.

    THE AIRPORT WHICH WAS GAILY DECORATED WITH FLAGS AND FESTOONS, PRESENTED A RIOT OF COLOUR. THERE WERE FLAGS AND BANNERS IN PROFUSION BROUGHT BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE RULING PEOPLE'S ACTION PARTY BRANCHES FROM ALL OVER THE STATE.

    BEFORE HE EMPLANED WITH HIS COLLEAGUES, PREMIER LEE KUAN YEW ADDRESSED THE HUGE CROWD AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THE TASK OF THE MISSION.

    HE SAID: "IT WAS IMPORTANT TO TELL THE WORLD, PARTICULARLY THE NEWLY EMERGENT AFRICAN NATIONS, THAT MALAYSIA WAS NOT NEO-COLONIALIST OR BRITISH PLOT BUT HAD BEEN FOUNDED BY "THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE" OF VARIOUS TERRITORIES COMPOSING IT.
