  • Description

Senior delegates representing 12 Eastern Orthodox Churches have been meeting at the Africa Hall in Addis Ababa for a conference designed to prepare the way for a forthcoming dialogue on unity with the smaller group of Oriental Orthodox Churches, which includes the Ethiopian Church.

The idea of holding the talks in Addis Ababa was put forward by the Archbishop of the Greek orthodox Church in Ethiopia, Dr. Methodius Fouyas. The Archbishop is an ardent supporter of the move to bring the two wings of the Orthodox Church together.

At the meeting were archbishops, bishops and scholars representing the Eastern orthodox Churches of Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Rumania, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Alexandria, Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople and Finland.

The oriental group comprises the Orthodox Churches of Ethiopia, Armenia, Syria and South India.
