A United Arab Republic delegation headed by Dr. Hafez Ghanem, the Minister for Education, arrived?
A United Arab Republic delegation headed by Dr. Hafez Ghanem, the Minister for Education, arrived in Dar-es-Salaam on Saturday (January 9) for a four-day visit. The delegation was greeted at the airport by the Tanzania Foreign Minister Israel Elinawinga and the U.A.R. Ambassador Mohamed Fuad el-Bidewi.
The Egyptian delegation is on a tour of East African countries to explain its position on the latest Middle East developments. Dr. Ghanem told reporters at the airport that he brought with him a message from President Anwar Sadat for President Julius Nyerere, whom he expects to meet on Monday (II January).
The delegation will meet with several other Tanzanian leaders including Education Minister Chediel Mgonja and make a one day visit to Zanzibar. Tanzania is the first stop on the tour by the U.A.R. delegation, their next visit is to Zambia. The tour also includes Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia and Somalia.
Asked by reporters about present prospects of a Middle East settlement Dr. Ghanem said the U.A.R. believed that, at the moment, Israel was only manoeuvring in order to annex the occupied territories.
