  • Description

    Her name is Suzanne Adams.

She's a 20-year-old Dallas girl whose face and figure have won for her a number of beauty contests and whose brains have gained here a job as Engineering Aide in the Advanced Weapons section at Chance Vought Aircraft.

She won her title over 65 other beauties in a Texas-wide competition to select a "Miss Space" for the Air Force Association National Convention and Air Power Panorama held in Dallas last September. her sponsor was the 136th Air Defense Wing of the Texas Air National Guard.

When Cartoonist Milton Caniff saw her at the AFA convention, Suzanne unexpectedly got herself another title: Miss Lace. Caniff took one look at the dark haired, Texas girl and said her resemblance to his popular cartoon beauty was amazing. Then he arranged to have her appear in a Miss Lace costume and introduced her with: "Miss Space IS Miss Lace."
Suzanne is currently assigned to a secret Air Force project at Chance Vought. She has plotted graphs and curves, performed calculations and assisted on analog computer flight analysis for the highly-advanced weapon system.

Although she by no means regards herself as a space expert, she feels very strongly about one thing: When man starts travelling in space woman should be with him. She reasons that a compatible man and wife team, rather than a two-man crew, should be selected for the months-long or years-long space journeys to other planets.

Suzanne attended the University of Texas where last year she was selected as Miss Highland Lakes to represent Austin in the Texas competition for the Miss Universe contest. The college selected her as one of the Blue Bonnet Belle beauties and its "Ranger Magazine" sponsored her into the ranks of the university's 10 most beautiful girls. When she was a senior in high school she was named "Miss Flame" by the Dallas suburb of Oak Cliff and later, "Miss Flame" of Dallas.

In addition to working for Chance Vought, she has found time for television appearances and currently is in the show "Magic Circus" which is video taped in Dallas and is shown each Saturday in Baltimore, Atlanta, Denver, Detroit and Chicago.

She also is a fashion and photographers' model and has been seen in a number of magazine advertisements.

Miss Space will be delighted to pose for pictures for you if you're looking for an eye-catcher besides those filling the Las Vegas skies this week. She'll also be happy to air her views about woman's role in space if you steer clear of questions about eccentric anomaly, lunar parallax, the theoretical LaGrange liberation point and the like.
