Background: Members of the Chinese table tennis team at present visiting Britain called at the London Zoo on Friday (17 Dec)
The purpose of the visit was to see London's famous giant panda -- Chi Chi.

The panda remains one of the rarest of living things and part of Western China is one its last remaining sanctuaries in the wild.

At table tennis, China has already beaten England once -- and the two sides meet again is South London on Saturday (18 Dec)
SYNOPSIS: LONDON'S FAMOUS GIANT PANDA -- A NATIVE OF THE HILLS OF WESTERN CHINA -- RECEIVED SOME VISITORS FROM HOME ON FRIDAY. THEY WERE THE TOURING CHINESE TABLE TENNIS TEAM -- AT PRESENT PLAYING IN BRITAIN.

THE PANDA -- KNOWN AS CHI CHI -- HAS A REPUTATION FOR MOODINESS. BUT TODAY THERE WAS NO SULKING, AS CHI CHI PUT ON A PERFORMANCE THAT DELIGHTED HER VISITORS.

THE GIANT PANDA REMAINS AMONG THE RAREST OF LIVING THINGS. WESTERN CHINA IS ONE OF ITS LAST REMAINING SANCTUARIES IN THE WILD
THE PANDA WAS CERTAINLY THE MAIN ATTRACTION FOR THE CHINESE VISITORS BUT THEY EXPLORED THE REST OF THE ZOO BEFORE LEAVING
THE FLOCK OF FLAMINGOES ALWAYS ATTRACTS THE ATTENTION OF PASSERS BY. THE CHINESE WERE NO EXCEPTION
AND THE ELEPHANT -- WHICH DEMANDED ATTENTION BY THEIR VERY SIZE. ON THE MORE SERIOUS MOTE OF PLAYING TABLE TENNIS, THE CHINESE TEAM WILL AGAIN MEET ENGLAND ON SATURDAY. THEY GO INTO THE MATCH WITH THE UPPER HAND, HAVING BEATEN AN ENGLISH SIDE ALREADY AT BIRMINGHAM
