  • Description

Coach-loads of tourists were travelling yesterday ( Monday) to the West Bank of the Jordan, where official Israeli observers are already keeping a round-the-clock watch on developments across the border in Jordan.

Reports from the border yesterday indicated that the situation in the adjoining sector of Jordan was relatively quiet and that the sound of gunfire had diminished. But late, israeli observers saw convoys of Jordanian troops moving north towards the battle zone of Irbid in Northern Jordan.

Along the frontier, the israelis kept up their usual vigilant patrols. And in Tel Aviv there were high-level consultations on the worsening situation in Jordan. With alarm growing at reported Syrian intervention in Jordan, Israeli Prime Minister Mrs. Golda Meir discussed latest developments with her ministers after her return from Washington last night.
