  • Description

FRANCE AND WEST GERMANY CLASHED OVER THE INTRODUCTION OF A SINGLE HARMONISED GRAIN PRICE IN THE COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES WHEN THE COMMUNITY'S COUNCIL OF MINISTERS MET IN BRUSSELS YESTERDAY (TUESDAY).

ACCORDING TO REPORTS, THE FRENCH AGRICULTURE MINISTER, M. PISANI, CRITICISED HIS GERMAN COLLEAGUE, HERR WERNER SCHWARZ, FOR REFUSING TO GIVE A DEFINITE UNDERTAKING ON COMMON GRAIN PRICES. HERR SCHWARZ PROPOSED THAT THE SIX COUNTRIES SHOULD FIX GRAIN PRICES FOR THE 1964-65 HARVEST ONLY, BUT SAID THESE SHOULD BE AT THE SAME LEVEL AS IN 1963-64.

    M. PISANI SAID THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT COULD NOT ACCEPT HERR SCHWARZ'S REJECTION OF AN IMMEDIATE DECISION ON THE HARMONISATION OF GRAIN PRICES.

HE ADDED THAT THE SIX HAD EITHER TO AGREE TO THE IMMEDIATE APPLICATION OF A COMMON GRAIN PRICE OR ON ITS GRADUAL INTRODUCTION OVER A PERIOD OF YEARS. HE ALSO REJECTED THE GERMAN PROPOSAL TO FIX COMMUNITY GRAIN PRICES FOR THE 1964-65 GRAIN HARVEST WITHOUT DECIDING AT THE SAME TIME WHAT THE FUTURE COMMON GRAIN PRICE WOULD BE.

THE COUNCIL MEETS AGAIN TODAY. THE AGRICULTURE MINISTERS OF THE"SIX" MEET AGAIN ON APRIL 29 AND 30 WHEN THEY WILL ONCE AGAIN DISCUSS GRAIN PRICES.
