    PRESS REPORTS FROM THE CAPITAL SAID AN INDIAN CANBERRA JET HAD MADE TWO SWEEPS OVER THE CITY AND ATTACKED THE POST OFFICE, SCORING DIRECT HITS WITH CANNON FIRE. HOWEVER, MR GEORGE IVAN SMITH, CHIEF CIVILIAN U.N. OFFICIAL IN KATANGA HAS DENIED THIS. PRESIDENT TSHOMBE AND SOME BRITISH CITIZENS IN ELISABETHVILLE HAVE PROTESTED AGAINST BRITAIN'S DECISION TO SUPPLY BOMBS TO THE UNITED NATIONS FORCES. THESE BOMBS, WHICH ARE ONLY TO BE USED IN SELF DEFENCE, ARE FOR USE BY THE INDIAN CANBERRAS.

    IN LEOPOLDVILLE, THE U.N. HEADQUARTERS AND THE CONGOLESE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT, IN A JOINT STATEMENT, HAVE SAID THEY ARE NOT AIMING AT THE CONQUEST OF KATANGA BY FORCE. THEIR AIM IS TO RESTORE LAW AND ORDER, AND ELIMINATE THE WHITE MERCENARIES SERVING WITH PRESIDENT TSHOMBE'S TROOPS.
