    THE UNITED STATES GUIDED-MISSILE FRIGATE "DAHLGREN" ARRIVED IN ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST, ON A THREE-DAY GOODWILL VISIT ON MONDAY (JANUARY 20). DURING THE VISIT, THE 4,700-TON VESSEL WAS INSPECTED BY SENIOR IVORY COAST MILITARY AND NAVAL OFFICERS.

    THE FRIGATE WITH A CREW OF 350 MEN AND 28 OFFICERS IS MAKING A NUMBER OF GOODWILL VISITS TO AFRICAN PORTS AND HAD ALREADY PUT INTO DAKAR AND MONROVIA. SHE WAS SCHEDULED TO VISIT LOME, TEMA, LUANDA AND MOMBASA BEFORE SAILING TO JOIN THE ATLANTIC FLEET AS A FLAGSHIP.

    ABOARD THE "DAHLGREN" FOR THE GOODWILL VISITS WAS REAR-ADMIRAL JAMES A. DARE, US NAVY COMMANDER OF THE SOUTH ATLANTIC FORCE. THE COMMANDER OF THE FRIGATE IS CAPTAIN LUCIEN CAPONE JUNIOR.

    THE "DAHLGREN", OF THE FARRAGUT CLASS OF GUIDED MISSILE FRIGATES, IS EQUIPPED WITH A TWIN TERRIER MISSILE LAUNCHER, AND ASROC ANTI-SUBMARINE 8-TUBE LAUNCHER, ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS AND 6 TORPEDO TUBES. THE VISITORS EXPRESSED CONSIDERABLE INTEREST IN THE LAUNCHER AND ITS SLEEK TERRIER MISSILES.
