    THE UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON COLONIALISM - THE COMMITTEE OF 24 - IS MEETING IN LUSAKA THIS WEEK. DURING THE WEEKEND THE DELEGATES HAVE BEEN ARRIVING IN THE ZAMBIAN CAPITAL.

    AT THE AIRPORT TO GREET DELEGATES AS THEY ARRIVED ON SUNDAY WAS MR. SIMON KAPWEPWE - THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA. AMONG THE ARRIVALS WAS MR. JACOB MALIK, THE SOVIET DEPUTY MINISTER FOR AFRICAN AFFAIRS. A TRIBAL GROUP PERFORMED ELABORATE TRADITIONAL DANCES FOR THE DELEGATES AT THE AIRPORT. CLOSE TO THE TARMAC A CROWD OF DEMONSTRATORS WAVED PLACARDS CONDEMNING COLONIALISM.

    THE MEETING IS BEING HELD IN THE OPPENHEIMER COLLEGE OF SOCIAL SERVICE IN LUSAKA. COUNTRIES REPRESENTED ON THE COMMITTEE ARE AUSTRALIA, BULGARIA, CAMBODIA, CHILE, DENMARK, ETHIOPIA, INDIA, IRAN, IRAQ, ITALY, IVORY COAST, MALAGASY REPUBLIC, MALI, POLAND, U.S.S.R., SIERRE LEONE, SYRIA, TANZANIA, TUNISIA, BRITAIN, U.S.A., VENEZUELA, AND YUGOSLAVIA.

    SPEAKING ON HIS ARRIVAL IN LUSAKA, MR. MALIK SAID THAT DURING THE CONFERENCE, THE SOVIET DELEGATION WOULD DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORKING OUT BY THE COMMITTEE OF EFFECTIVE MEASURES AIMED AT THE IMMEDIATE ELIMINATION OF COLONIAL REGIMES FROM THE AFRICAN CONTINENT.
