Background: THE PRESIDENT OF SOUTH KOREA, PAK CHUNG HI, IS TO VISIT AUSTRALIA ON SEPTEMBER THE 16TH.

HIS THREE-DAY VISIT WILL INCLUDE TALKS ON VIETNAM WITH THE AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER, MR. GORTON.

PRESIDENT PAK HAS BEEN IN POWER MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS, HAVING LED THE ALMOST BLOODLESS COUP AGAINST THE EXISTING GOVERNMENT IN MAY, 1961.

AFTER A PERIOD OF MILITARY CONTROL, SOUTH KOREA CONFIRMED THE LEADERSHIP OF PAK CHUNG HI BY ELECTING HIM PRESIDENT FOR A THREE-YEAR-TERM.

HIS MAJORITY OVER FORMER PRESIDENT YOON BO SUN WAS ONLY A SLENDER ONE, BUT MORE RECENTLY.....IN MAY 1967....PRESIDENT PAK WAS RE-ELECTED WITH A MUCH BIGGER MAJORITY.

THIS FILM EMBRACES THESE, AND OTHER, MAJOR EVENTS IN SOUTH KOREA THROUGHOUT THE PERIOD. ASPECTS COVERED INCLUDE THE INITIAL RIOTS OF 1961; THE OVERTHROW OF THE GOVERNMENT; THE START OF PAK'S LEADERSHIP; INTERNAL DISPUTES AND DEMONSTRATIONS OVER PLANS TO NORMALISE RELATIONS WITH JAPAN; VIOLENT SCENES IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY; PRESIDENT PAK MEETING VARIOUS HEADS OF STATE; CAPTURE OF NORTH KOREAN INFILTRATORS ATTEMPTING TO ASSASSINATE PRESIDENT PAK; ANTI-NORTH KOREAN DEMONSTRATIONS.
