  • Description

The New York World's Fair is not scheduled to open until next month, but one of its exhibits is already piping the general public aboard.

Saturday (14 March), the Metro Goldwyn Mayer replica of the good ship Bounty, of mutiny fame, became the first exhibit to open at the fair.

The 480-ton ship was built for the Marlon Brando movie, "Mutiny on the Bounty." But now that its movie days are over, it will be part of the scenery at the Fair, docked in Flushing Bay for two seasons. The public will be admitted to the top and lower decks of the ship, which is an exact replica of the British ship on which Fletcher Christian and his companions staged the mutiny that set Captain Robert Bligh and other officers adrift in a small boat with which they eventually made their way to safety.
