  • Description

Prince Bernhard and Crown Princess Beatrix -- both keen horse-riding fans -- were among the spectators at Enschede for the three-day Dutch international horse show. Princess Beatrix was enthusiastically taking cine-film throughout the main events.

The British team did not manage to repeat their 1957 victory in the main international event, but had to be content to fourth place out of the six competitors. Germany won the event, in which each participating country is represented by three riders. Other nations taking part were France, Chile, Belgium, and Holland, who came second.

Riding was made more difficult by the changeable weather. Sunny periods were intermixed with heavy storms which made conditions underfoot far from ideal.
